Patient Questions about Latisse:

What is Latisse?
Latisse is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis, used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker, and darker. Eyelash hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or less than normal amount of eyelashes.

Does Latisse work?
In a clinical study of 278 participants, 78% of Latisse users (versus 18% for the vehicle*) experienced a significant increase in overall eyelash prominence (including elements of length, fullness, and darkness) at week 16. Lashes were:

  • 25% longer (2% for vehicle)
  • 106% fuller (12% for vehicle)
  • 18% darker (3% for vehicle)
*Vehicle is the same solution as Latisse without the active ingredient

How soon will I see results?
It's important to remember that Latisse solution works gradually. You should start to see longer lashes in 4 weeks, with full growth in 16 weeks. Stay on the product for 16 weeks to get the full dramatic results. After 16 weeks, talk to Dr. Adelglass about ongoing use. Individual results may vary.

Could it darken my eyelids?
Skin hyperpigmentation (or skin darkening) is a less common side effect, which typically occurs close to where the solution is applied on the skin, making the eyelid skin look a little darker. This is due to an increase of melanin in the skin, but is expected to reverse after several weeks to months if you decide to stop using the product.

Could Latisse cause the color of my eyes to change?
Increased brown iris pigmentation has occurred when the same formulation of bimatoprost ophthalmic solution was instilled directly into the eye to treat elevated inraocular pressure/glaucoma. Although iris pigmentation was not reported in clinical studies with Latisse, patients should be advised about the potential for increased brown iris pigmentation, which is likely to be permanent.

What if I stop using Latisse?
If you stop using Latisse solution, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.

Since Latisse is relatively new, should I wait before using it?
Latisse received it's FDA approval in December 2008, after a team of 16 experienced doctors from all over the country conducted a clinical study. Latisse is from Allergan, a specialty pharmaceutical company. Since launch, 350,000 people have tried Latisse, with approximately 1.5 million kits sold.
